Kathy Ireland the supermodel, is now wife, mother of three, author, Sunday school teacher, and founder and CEO of kathy ireland Worldwide®. Forbes, Newsweek and the Wall Street Journal celebrate Kathy’s fashion and licensing company as an empire, with over $1.4 billion sales annually. As an active philanthropist, Kathy supports a wide variety of non-profits, including the Elizabeth Taylor HIV/AIDS Foundation, Feed The Children and the Alliance for Christian Education. UCLA named Kathy as one of the Top Ten Women’s Health Advocates in America. She has said that it has taken many years of growing in her Christian faith to realize that even one voice can make a difference and must be heard. This passion has inspired Kathy's strong, unwavering, and vocal commitment to the Jewish people and the State of Israel. As such, Kathy is now taking on another role, becoming the International Ambassador for the Holyland Heroes™, a campaign to help rehabilitate the wounded Israeli soldiers and victims of terror at the National Center for Rehabilitation at Sheba Medical Center.

Dr. Lidia Gabis is an internationally recognized leader in the area of autism and developmental disabilities for Sheba Medical Center. As director, her vision has transformed The Weinberg Child Development Center, the oldest and largest in Israel, into a treatment, research, and education center of excellence. The Center provides the highest standards of care and knowledge, maximizing all the benefits of being a part of the largest medical center in Israel. Under her leadership, The Lazaroff International Summer Program was launched to provide parents a tailored approach to treating the special developmental needs of their children, through a unique and intensive camp setting. Dr. Gabis trained in pediatrics and completed two fellowships in pediatric neurology and in developmental disabilities at Stony Brook Medical Center in New York. She is also an assistant professor at Tel Aviv University and a proud mother of three.

Special Tribute in Memory of Frances Brody: Frances Brody (1910 - 2008) was devoted to the State of Israel and setting an example for the next generation of Jewish leadership. Her philanthropy was heartfelt, wide-ranging and innovative, as she loyally served on the Friends of Sheba Board of Directors and Board of Governors. Frances had a very celebrated career as president of Alpert & Alpert Iron and Metal. She became the very first female CEO in the US of a major recycling company, where she worked until her retirement. Frances’ generosity has helped establish the Gynecological Clinic at Sheba, the Frances Brody Career Development Chair and Fellowship Fund at the Center for Cancer Research and Vascular Biology at Technion, and the Frances Brody Institute for Applied Diplomacy at Tel Aviv University. She was recognized as a Laureate of Distinction from Friends of Sheba, and was a recipient of an Honorary Doctorate from Technion. Frances’ generosity continues, as she also made a major bequest for the benefit of Sheba Medical Center.

Mistress of Ceremonies Rhea Kohan blends comedy and compassion in her many years associated with Friends of Sheba. Only 48 hours after the attack of 9/11, Rhea was hosting our 2001 Women of Achievement Luncheon. "I was dreading it," she says, "because who was in the mood to laugh?" But Rhea deftly negotiated the line between humor and solemnity, and turned the Luncheon into an uplifting catharsis. Raised in Brooklyn and while working as a canteen girl, Rhea met her husband, Emmy-winning writer and composer Buz Kohan. When Buz was offered a job as writer on The Carol Burnett Show in 1967, they relocated to Los Angeles. Comedy and music flourish with the Kohan children as well: David, is the Emmy-winning creator of Will & Grace; Jono, is the founder of the music production company, 1st Born Entertainment; and Jenji, also an Emmy-winner, created, writes, and produces the television show Weeds. The family still makes time to get together for humorous Shabbat dinners. Rhea, who attended our last Sheba Israel Mission, comments, “Visiting Sheba was a real eye-opener, and I never even made it to ophthalmology.” Rhea Kohan not only makes us laugh…she makes us care.

It is estimated that about 5% of people with MS develop symptoms in childhood or adolescence.

Come meet Professor Anat Achiron, one of the world’s most highly acclaimed researchers in the medical and holistic treatment of multiple sclerosis (MS) and the founder of the National Center for Multiple Sclerosis at Sheba Medical Center.

Prof. Achiron has more than 150 publications to her name, and has received numerous grants and scientific awards for her research work in medicine and neurology, including the 2006 Sheba Medical Center Prize for excellence in research.
